Cultural Texts of Rava Community

Subject

Cultural Texts of Rava Community

Description

We interviewed several members of the community who were involved in the performance of the fishing-dance, led by Sri Rabi Rava. The Rava community, or the Koch Rava community, inhabits Assam, as well as a few areas in North Bengal. They live predominantly in the forest, and live on forest produce, as well as fishing. In fact, fishing is an important part of their life, which explains the significance of the fishing-dance.
